Dear Friends and Family,

As you may know, Andy has retired from the Marine Corps after 30 years of service. His commitment began as a boy in a Marine Corps family, continued when he graduated from the Naval Academy and chose to be a Marine, grew through training as an Airborne Ranger, active duty at Kaneohe in Hawaii, 25 years in Seattle as a USMC reservist, and culminated in being called to active duty in 2003.

We are proud of his service to the country, his dedication to the Marines and his sense of duty to our community. As with all our military men and women, he served in our stead in peace time and war--always trained and ready to protect the country and our freedoms.

In that light, I would like to share with you a wonderful opportunity to honor those who serve. The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (MCSF) exists to provide college scholarship assistance to deserving sons and daughters of Marines, particularly those who have been killed or wounded in action. I can not think of a better way to support those who have sacrificed so much for us, than to care for their families in such an important way.

Now for my purpose in writing you today: In honor of Andy’s service to the Marine Corps, and as a surprise to him, we have set up the Colonel J.A. Hutchison Leadership Scholarship through the MCSF. A fully funded scholarship endowment is minimum $60,000. The boys and I are getting it started with a $10,000 gift which has been matched by my employer, the Simonyi Fund. In addition, a generous gift of $5,000 from a friend already puts the scholarship at $25,000. We are almost halfway there!

As 2006 draws to a close, I hope you will consider being part of this scholarship in Andy’s name. No donation is too great or too small. In addition, on Saturday, January 6th (Save the Date!) we’re having a party, and will announce to Andy what we have done in his honor to help his fellow Marines.
