The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

34th Annual Marine Corps Marathon

Sunday, October 25, 2009
Washington, DC

The 2009 Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Marathon Team is proud to have over 50 runners join us this year! We can no longer register new runners into the marathon or the 10K race but if you are already registered for the marathon, you can still join our Foundation Marathon Team to help raise funds for children of Marines.

Our mission is to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships for higher education to deserving sons and daughters of Marines and children of former Marines, with particular attention being given to children whose parent was killed or wounded in action. We are proud of our long history and commitment: Since 1962, we have awarded almost 25,000 scholarships and bonds totaling over $42.5 million, including $3.5 million to 1,405 scholarship recipients for the current 2009-2010 academic year. We hope you take time to explore our website and learn more about our mission and scholarship program.

Why Join the MCSF Marathon Team?

* To guarantee your entrance into the 34th Marine Corps Marathon.
* To train and complete your 1st marathon or to add to your growing list of marathons you have successfully run.
* Most importantly, to support the children and families of our Marines.

To become a member of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Marathon Team, all we ask of you is to pledge and raise a minimum fundraising goal to help support the great children of our military heroes. The Foundation currently awards scholarships based on need. The average family income of the scholarship recipients in 2008 was $43,000. Joining the MCSF Team will help spread the word about the Foundation and the money that you help raise will provide much-needed scholarships to the sons and daughters of Marines and Navy Corpsmen serving with Marines who are protecting our country, as well as those who have come before them.

You will receive the following when you join the MCSF Marathon Team:

* A personalized fundraising website that you can operate very easily with direct support from the Foundation staff. You can also add your own photo and personal note for your friends and family to view;
* Ability to monitor your contributions online and add cash or checks to your contribution total;
* Automatic tax receipts and thank you notes sent to your donors via e-mail;
* Sample contribution letters that can be personalized to help ask your friends and family for their support; and
* Incentives and gifts for raising the most money as individuals and teams will also be available.

Although our organization is based in the Washington, DC area, you do not need to live in the metropolitan area in order to join the marathon team. Many of our past team members have traveled from across the United States.

You can join as an individual runner or as a team. We also invite corporations and business to put teams together to build office camaraderie.

Please feel free to contact us if you need any help registering or if you have any questions about the 2009 Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Marathon Team.
